Do dogs look like their owners? If so, do dogs grow to mimic their owners, or do owners choose a dog resembling their own image. It wasn’t until last week I was one of the million people who would laugh at a dog and their own who resembled one another. A bald overweight man with big cheeks paired up with an American bulldog named “Bruce”. Or perhaps a small fluffy white dog being walked by an elderly lady with a bouffant of white hair.
I have now become one of these owners who resemble their dog. If you asked days, weeks or even months ago I would have denied this fact. Let me explain.
It was a beautiful spring day in Massachusetts and Ollie and I started our journey down to the Merrimack River for our daily walk. I didn’t realize how windy it had become and wished I wore a hat. However, we kept walking with the wind blowing in both our faces. I looked down at Ollie and thought “What a silly dog!” as his ears were waiving in the wind. The sunshine was beaming off his fur and giving this beautiful golden reddish/brown color. What a good looking pup.
I started thinking again about the wind and how my hair was being blown off my face behind me. It too was shining in the sunshine. I had noticed the day before the resemblance of my hair color to Ollie’s fur. At that moment I came to realize the similarity between me and my dog. The reddish/brown hair being blown behind both of us. I had become one of the owners who resemble their dog.
You would think looking like a dog would make one change their appearance. However, I love my dog. His droppy eyes, slobbering mouth and his characteristic skin folds. I happily accept the fact I look like my dog, therefore if I was a dog, I would be a bloodhound.
