Your Birthday Party

Today would have been what I calculated to be your 55th Birthday.

If you were here to celebrate I am sure we would have a party, 55 years old is a milestone and a big deal.

You would have sat at the head of the table and gloated all through dinner that it was your Birthday. It would be nothing new because you would have been gloating for weeks now that your Birthday was coming. You would have gifts wrapped in beautiful bows and Sandy would have made you a cake. Sophia would be sitting in your lap helping you blow out your candles; she is big enough for that now you know! She would have been saying “papa papa” and she also would have helped you open your gifts that I imagine she would think were her own. If I had to guess I would guess I bought you something warm to wear outside at work. Something thermal lined since the bitter cold weather is just starting to arrive for the season and you spend so much time outside at work. Sophia would have made you something plastered with her tiny fingerprints.

Mom would have mad you something you love for dinner like long spaghetti. She would have put milk on the table because for some reason Mom has always thought a big glass of milk should be drank with a dish of spaghetti. Mom would have burnt the rolls and I would have eaten all the garlic bread… Tera would have signed her card for you ’Love Butch’ and there would be so much laughter…

Yes, we would have had a party for you…. You deserve a party even though you are not here… and even though mom will not cook for you and you will not open your gifts and eat delicious cake Sandy made… We will all still take a moment today and smile and laugh and Sophia will still run around calling for her Papa because you are long from gone in our lives….

Yes Dad, today we love and remember you not with a party, but in our own quite special ways…

Happy Birthday
