What to Expect When You Are Expecting

So lets start at the beginning. One asks themselves at some point in their life "What now?" For me is seemed the only logically answer after getting married was children or a dog. Not taking a minute to find the pros and con's to both I knew I didn't want children now, so I quickly answered "DOG". How hard could a dog be to take care of?Realistically, not as easy as it looks. Mind you, my dog is even lazy and its hard work. We decided to name him "OLLIE". His name is English and the meaning is "elf army". I guess he doesn't really fit that meaning. Since he will be almost 2 ft tall and 110lbs and he is LAZY!We named him after one of our favorite restaurant "Owen &Ollie's". That meaning suits him much better

So lets fast forward. It's now D-day. That's right - the day we pickup Ollie! We didn't have much one-on-one time time with him prior to this day. Really, just one visit that lasted approx 30 minutes and I think we spent more time asking questions and not really even paying attending to our little pup. So now we have no choice. We apply the collar, hook on the leash and away we go. We get him in the car, expecting chaos, and Ollie sleeps. At this point we think, this is "no fun". We spend a fun day at Mom's. I think Ollie's highlight of the day was when he meet Wilson. However, was confused when Wilson ran away after he was biting his manhood, tail and fur. Thanks to Wilson,we all had a great experience with Ollie meeting new dogs. After his 20 minutes of playing with Wilson, Ollie slept...We drove Ollie to meet Ad's family and he refused to walk when we got out of the car. He just wanted to sit in the shade. "What a lazy dog" I kept thinking, along with "we are so lucky". Ollie slept at Ad's family's house. So back to Wright Street we went.

So now we are home. A place that will one day be familiar to this little pup. He still can not climb the stairs to the porch, but he will soon. As Adam was putting in the air conditioner, Ollie and I sat outside and Ollie did poop outside. THANK GOD! What a mess I would have to clean up if it was on a rug or during the night. We spent the night just playing with his toys, hiding in the coffee tables and sleeping. So far so good!

We bring him upstairs, put him in the crate and he falls back asleep. We only woke up a few times to him whimpering and just let him know we were there, like the breeder suggested. The night seemed almost effortless. So then 5 o'clock comes around. Well who the heck wakes up at 5 am when they don't have to work. NOT ME and definitely not Adam. Well I finally get up at 8 and bring him outside. He pees on cue! This house training seems EASY! I bring him back inside give him a treat and some hugs followed by breakfast. Another thing he excels at, GREAT!Approx 30 minutes later I have a feeling. I bring him outside to his pooping spot and...poop comes out! How great. followed by sitting in the shade. The only problem so far is getting him to go outside. Between the heat and the girls softball game with all the cheering and screaming he was a little frightened. But he is getting better. So we go back inside and again praise his potty success. So this is where I am proud of myself and most of all Ollie. I go to get something to drink and it happens. That's right. he pees right on the floor. We were just outside I thought. Why is he doing this. I quickly throw an absorbent pad under him, but too late he was done. He sat down and looked up at me with his eyes saying "I did it!" OK...I'm ready...where are my hugs???" Oh no I thought, bad bad puppy. We were just outside. My system has failed. So I go and find the carpet cleaner in the kitchen and return to see him pooping again on the floor. My first thought changed from "We were just outside" to "Well at least its not on the rug". i scoop him up and he finished outside. At this point I ask him "We were just out here, remember? You could have at least finished pooping. But no, you are lazy." I wait for an answer. He sits. He lays down. He closes his eyes. He is sleeping. In a matter of 10 minutes he went from pooping to sleeping. He never did answer my question.

I bring him upstairs and put him in his crate. I get in the shower. He's sleeping. Adam's sleeping. Life is good so far; so the question is "What do I now expect?" Well with this dog -Dirty carpets, long naps and many meals!
So long for now.
